The Leather Book: Poetry

This poem got a superior with invitation at district Fine Arts and superior at national Fine Arts.

The Leather Book

Beautiful girl climbs into bed,

Replaying the insults wretchedly said.

Salty tears flow, steady as a stream,

She tries to remember all of her dreams.

She picks up a book, leathery cover,

To see what within she will discover.

A powerful God, mighty and great,

Eraser of sins, a brand new slate.

A noble Lion, Lamb, and King,

Protecting and living, a reason to sing.

Fragile pages, indestructible words,

Fighting evil, mightier than swords.

Emotion spills from out her eyes,

And she lets go of all dark ties.

Bright lightness bursts into her heart,

Scattering monsters out of the dark.

Beautiful girl lying in bed,

No longer thinking about words said.

Focusing now fully on Him,

Everything else seems to grow dim.

She smiles with joy as she reads to “the end”,

And drifts off to sleep with the word “Amen.”
